So,

I received a call from my wife that the police were at my house to search the place.  Seems the power company turned me in for using a lot of power, and so they think I am growing pot..  lol..

I went home and showed them all the computer gear that is running, and showed them the actual draw that each UPS was reporting.  Even though I showed them that 80% of the power is being used by this gear, they still politly tore my house apart.  FUBAR!!

Of course they didn't find anything, and the guy in charge is all appologetic and kept saying they were required to do the search even though it was obvious I didn't have a pot farm in the basement.  Then they started asking what it was all for, as in "are you a hacker?".  I told them what it was being used for, and they had their own people to verify that was the case.

So end of the day, I get to clean up a mess, get looked at by the neighbors like I am a criminal, all for trying to help a good cause.

I am talking to the power company about registering why I am using so much power.  Seems they would be happy that my bill is bigger than it used to be.

Of course, my wife is in a state of "get rid of the crap"...

Wow.  Glad you survived all that    WHAT?!  No pot farm!?  What's WRONG with you man!?   

But, seriously, geez...that is Gestapo crap right there.  Absolutely ridiculous.  I think you have a cause to sue the police, because they had NO RIGHT to suspect you based on "power consumption".  Go for it man.  That was just so wrong I am livid about it myself.

Frustrating at the time, but amusing too.  That's a classic for telling bar stories (or the grandkids?) for years to come.  Now you just need to find out what some of the neighbors were *really* thinking to spice it up a bit.

When you say, "... politely showed up..", that was with a search warrant, yes?
