Me and the snowstorm that hit DC
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:43:48 PM »

That is me, in DC...first week here.  That is my car parked on the street and buried in snow directly behind me.  See that brownstone house right behind me, across the street?  Things worked out today so that I am staying there for pretty good rate...much much much better than the massive hotel bucks I have been paying since last Sunday!  My good friend lives in the house right in front of me...he was standing around his front door when he snapped this photo.  See how the snow is almost up to my butt behind me?  I ended up having to shovel about 60-70 feet of that crap, I would say, just to be able to get to that brownstone house to take my bags in to.  Man.  Tough work...tomorrow will try to dig my car out....

I dug my car out today...but we are supposed to get a lot more snow here in DC tomorrow through Wednesday...boggle.

Wow.  Started last week.  Drove up on the weekend before, when the winter storm was happening.  Interstates were absolutely treacherous.  Took me all day just from Atlanta to Raleigh, NC, where I stopped for the night.  Worked all week last week, until Friday at noon, when the Federal Government shut down....free time off work, paid :)  Then, we got today off...government shut down again...so stayed home getting paid.  Now, I see tomorrow the government is once again closed...another day off...paid...

Man.  I'm starting to LIKE this new gig ha ha... ;D ;D ;D

We were supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow here (Chicagoland) but there was only around 4 on my car this morning.  Of course, it is still snowing...

If it'll make you feel any better, we have had very little to nothing this year.  last year I was sliding off the road, getting high centered, stuck, pulled out, stuck again, smashing drifts, pulling other people out and dodging the cops on closed highways   ::)

Whelp!  Lots more snow in DC today...once again, the Federal Government was shut down, as they will be again tomorrow, and I would not be surprised on Friday as well....

What this means to me:

I have been On The Job, as it were, for almost two weeks - 9 days.  As of tomorrow, Thursday, at the end of the day, I will have actually WORKED for 4.5 of those days, and been off at "home", getting paid to stay there, for 4.5 days.  SWEEEEEEEET.  I LOVE this "working"-for-the-government gig!   ;D ;D ;D  I mean, best job in the world!  Stay home, get paid!  ha ha ha!  And Monday is another holiday for the government as well...nice.  I'm on a nice little vacation here lol.

Hmmm.... It could be that our Phoenix has some what different identity in real life ::)

Can you see the similarity?

Could it be???  ;D

And 'Phoenix'... Don't get buried in the snow. It's nice to hear that things are going your way again.

Phoenix -- Glad you made it safely and have found a home to hibernate in!

I've been out of town most of that time visiting family in Tucson.  Definitely enjoying the few extra days stuck here, but dreading digging my car out of 3 feet of snow at the airport and then the driveway at home -- assuming the road was plowed...  Good thing its a long weekend.

Oh sure I can dispute it  ;D  I always thought I took after Michael J. Fox myself...or Harrison Ford  ;D ;D

But many thanks Sam.  I'm soooo happy things are going good for me again too.  I think within a month or two, I may be able to have a farm fired up again for the team.  We'll see.  Hopefully won't be long!  When I can, know that I WILL.  I am actually thinking I might be in a position here soon to acquire new quads (again...hi Mewbysea, hi DBall....) to get crunching for Team-SciFi.  Might be a month or two, maybe even three, but soon, I think.  We'll see.  Can't hardly wait to become a crunching force again, FINALLY, after so long of having to endure hardship.

Happy for you too Big Bird...   Though sometimes doing a rocky in the mountains sounds a lot better than pounding key's 50-60 hours a week.... :)
