Replace batteries...
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:26:57 AM »

So.  Returned to my house in Atlanta for the week.  Then off to elsewhere.  But while I'm here, sure would be nice for my home heater to be working...which it was yesterday...but sometime last night it began blowing cold air.

I was befuddled.  Gas heating...checked my gas account...yep, paid up, CAN'T be off...I have an automatic temp control box on the wall...turned it off, on again, changed the temp, everything...stupid heater kept blowing cold air.  Getting colder and colder in house despite my raising the "hold" heater temp to like 80.  Watched it drop the current temp from 65 to 63 to 62 to 61, and falling, rapidly...WTF?  Then I finally noticed a flashing message on the automatic temp control unit hanging on the wall:  "Replace batteries"

Okay.  I thought, that's just another problem, probably I'll have to have a technician come out tomorrow anyway.  Finally figured how to rip the stupid thing off the wall, took an act of God...it had 3 Triple-A batteries powering it.  Luckily, I happened to have exactly three new ones still in my fridge (where I always keep new batteries, they last longer that way I heard).  Remounted the control on the wall, reset the heating temp, went to my vent in the kitchen, and praise the Lord, hot air was finally blowing out again...

Just replacing the batteries in my temp control unit solved the problem...who knew?  Wow.

I'm extremely grateful that that's all it was!  But MAN.  Lesson learned!
