Remember when, long ago when as a techie you could just walk away from a job and take one of the hundred other jobs wanting you? Damn I miss being able to tell the people I work for to take a flying leap!!!

So, I just had an hour long argument due to someone not knowing the difference between Disaster Recovery and High Availablity.
Our DR is Virtual, and I would not give someone a physical server for a "DR" server, so they threw a fit. What they actually wanted was an HA cluster, but that is not what they asked for. They simply kept saying they wanted a physical server for prod, and another physical for DR. (Along with virtuals for dev, stage, qa, blah blah blah). They kept saying it would NEVER WORK because it was virtual. I kept asking them what they had been smoking?

The word "Cluster" never came into it until they involved everyone's bosses because I would not, according to them, build them a cluster for prod. Now, don't you think they would want clusters all the way through the environments, since there are many things that could be different between a standalone SQL server and a clustered SQL server? nope, just the Prod and DR, um, I mean prod HA? I also asked about DR, and they just looked at me blankly.
Guess I should have just built a cluster with one physical and one virtual just to F with them.. :-)
Oh well, back to it.
