K, last update for this (I think):
Had a firm offer in Chicago, which is why I walked off the horrible Newark, NJ job. Back in Atlanta right now.
Today, got the offer I thought I would from DC.
Let's compare the two:
Chicago: 6-month contract
DC: Contract, but for at LEAST 3 years (and they have been there over 12 years now...they ain't going anywhere)
Chicago: Hourly wage = certain amount a year
DC: Salaried wage = more than Chicago per year
Chicago: Benefits: None. No vacation, no holiday, no sick time, no 401(k), no company matching, no profit sharing, no taking "snow days" off (paid) when the government does like recently in DC. None of that. Not even health benefits...find you own!
DC: Everything I mentioned above. All benefits.
My friends, I am headed for DC. It's a no-brainer. Even my GF, who is in Chicago, which was my motivation to go there, told me to take it, that she loves DC, and would come to be with me there.
I start there Feb 1st.
Things are looking up.
