K, last update for this (I think):

Had a firm offer in Chicago, which is why I walked off the horrible Newark, NJ job.  Back in Atlanta right now.

Today, got the offer I thought I would from DC.

Let's compare the two:

Chicago:  6-month contract
DC:  Contract, but for at LEAST 3 years (and they have been there over 12 years now...they ain't going anywhere)

Chicago:  Hourly wage = certain amount a year
DC:  Salaried wage = more than Chicago per year

Chicago:  Benefits:  None.  No vacation, no holiday, no sick time, no 401(k), no company matching, no profit sharing, no taking "snow days" off (paid) when the government does like recently in DC.  None of that.  Not even health benefits...find you own!
DC:  Everything I mentioned above.  All benefits.

My friends, I am headed for DC.  It's a no-brainer.  Even my GF, who is in Chicago, which was my motivation to go there, told me to take it, that she loves DC, and would come to be with me there.

I start there Feb 1st.

Things are looking up.  :)

One more update for now my friends here:  I packed out the house today, into storage, loooooong brutal day (and last night), off to DC tomorrow.  Will initially be living in a hotel for a while, hopefully not long, cause $700/week hotel, non-reimbursable, is brutal.  Have a good friend there, we are trying to rent a house or apt. together.  At that point, I can start reassembling my farm I hope.  10 hour drive for me tomorrow, not all that bad I guess.  My new life starts for certain there Monday morning, at the Department of Energy, the DoE.  Kind of jazzed in a way cause I'll finally, again, get all those benefits that normal people get - vacation, holidays, sick time, 401(k), health, all that stuff.  And a little more.  Have not had vacation in about 15-20 years now.  Nor Holidays.  Nor anything else.

Looking forward to this :)

Wish me luck...might be somewhat out of touch in the next few days.  But like I said, if everything goes well, I hope to have a farm back up and crunching for this team soon.  Even if it's one new addition at a time.
