IBM developed a water-cooled supercomputer and will use the heated water to heat the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology's building in Zurich. Aquasar is expected to deliver a peak performance of about 10 teraflops, and rather than stressing a datacenter's cooling systems, will consume about half of a data center's energy. Aquasar should reduce overall energy consumption by 40 percent, according to IBM.
