Intel Core i7
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:58:30 AM »

Is anyone building or planning to get a new system with the next generation Core i7 CPU (4 cores 8 threads - integrated memory controller) ?

I wonder how these things will perform on BOINC. I hear that they're good performers on benchmarks and the HyperThreading is much better than it was before. Looks interesting.

I didn't realize these were out already, somehow I had early 2009 on the brain for the release date.  No plans yet.....

My Sun machines with 8 cores and 4 threads never really performed well on Seti.  Non calculation intensive apps screamed though.  Wonder how these Intel chips will perform in calculation intensive apps.

Webpro are those T2000 boxes?  If so the reason they don't do well with Seti is that they weren't designed for high floating point.  They scream on databases though.  :)
