More quads going cheap...
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:28:03 PM »

Anyone looking to stave off Phoenix, Greg and/or just upgrade anything from the Pentium IV or older eras  might want to go to Dell Outlet and look over their XPS 420 offerings.

Some good quad cores starting at about $600.

Dell Outlet sales may be limited to US only, sorry I don't have a source for you folks in other countries.  HP's outlet has some comparable systems, but not nearly the volume and diversity of options to choose from.

Only one  ;)   So naturally today they send out an e-mail today offering 15% off! (Grrr -- I hate that kind of timing!)
The offer is good thru 1 MAY, via on-line purchases of refurbished Inspiron or XPS PCs (not good with other offers, etc.).

So if you are interested, the coupon code to use at checkout is  XVWZB0XMC4$N06.

Figure that covers the taxes and leaves you some change for software or RAM upgrades.  Enjoy!

Sweet  :)  But dang it Bob, tell the truth, you didn't need that to keep up with me...I'm still trying to get in to your league!   :o

You bought it 'cause you wanted to further help Team-SciFi kick butt in R2, and because you got it on the cheap  ;D

Are these re-certified quads the GO stepping, the SLACR cores, or the original?

Yes, these are the G0 stepping (aka SLACR) chips.

The folks who overclock swear by the G0 stepping version -- less power consumption and higher speeds.

Yet one more way to get more bang for your DC buck -- if you can make a 2.4 GHz chip run like a 3.0 GHz chip without paying the $300 premium, why not?
