I'm currently reading Man-Kzin Wars XI.  Pretty good, as good as the older ones.

Next up, maybe Old Soldiers by David Weber.

OK, I'll ask the obvious.  What are you currently reading?

Really tedious college textbooks and academic studies... ick.  In December I will reward myself with a good Sci-Fi (tbd).

I'm reading S.M. Stirling's "Against the Tide of Years" -- its the second in a trilogy about Nantucket getting sent back to the Bronze Age.  After rounding out the trilogy, I've got a couple of Star Trek: TOS novels on the "to be read" list...

I started the first few pages of the new Gordon R. Dickson's book, Antagonist, but I put it down.  I'm going to have to reread Young Bleys to get back into it...it's been too many years since his last work in the Childe Cycle

I've also got Weber's Off Armagedon Reef waiting for me.  I feel rich.

Do any of you knuckle-draggers actually read SF?

Oh yeah.  I still think the best first novel entry in SF I ever read was years ago (like 20), by I think it was David Palmer..."Emergence".  Masterful.  Probably out of print now, not sure.

I'm so bogged down in textbooks I don't read for pleasure as much as I could... besides, all the band-aids on my knuckles make it hard to turn the pages!

Seriously, I hope to get back into sci-fi reading soon.

Next on my list is to read the final book in the Star Trek Vulcan's Soul trilogy -- Epiphany.  After that its another Star Trek novel:  Excelsior - Forged in Fire

They're kind of like popcorn, easy to read and fun to be among "old friends".   :)

I've been sick for a week and so have caught up on some reading. I read Charles de Lint's _Dingo_, Terry Pratchett's _Going Postal_ and I'm half way through _Thud_. Seems like there was something else in there. I haven't been reading as much since finding Second Life. *grin*

How did you like De Lint?  Had a friend that discovered De Lint is a huge Kate Bush fan (as my friend and I are as well).  My friend had tried to get published (novel) for years - had a wall full of rejection slips.  De Lint helped him, critiqued him, mentored him almost.  My friend (since deceased) had like five books in the sci-fi & fantasy genres published, his first and probably best being "Mercedes Nights"  http://www.biblio.com/books/24461188.html  Mike Weaver was his name.  He unfortunately drowned in the Atlantic off Florida while on vacation.  (Side note:  I helped him as an editor with one of his early manuscripts for this book)

Interesting, I'll look into "Mercedes Nights" when I get the chance to.

How did you like De Lint?

I like most of the de Lint books that don't descend into horror. I loved Moonheart and it is probably in my top reads.  But then I was put off by the Mafia stuff in Greenmantle although it was a readably story. But when it came to Mulengro the violence just lost me and I stopped reading him for awhile. I really liked Trader and I like most of the Newford stories, although I sometimes find his style hard to follow in some of the more convoluted ones. But I'll read pretty much any story with Jilly Coppercorn in it.

Cool story about your friend. I'll look for his work. Everything I have ever heard about Mr. de Lint he sounds like a very nice guy and a wonderful musician. Perhaps someday I'll get to hear him play.
